Award-winning Blackcurrant Yogurt at the Great Yorkshire Show
Following our success at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, Longley Farm has taken home yet more awards at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, including the esteemed David Hartley Supreme Champion Dairy Product Trophy for our Blackcurrant yogurt.
On receiving the award, owner Jimmy Dickinson said “David Hartley was a very prestigious person who was very much behind this show alongside Judy Bell. It is a real honour to win this award. This is for the staff at Longley who are doing a great job.”
Our multi-award-winning Blackcurrant yogurt also won best yogurt in show and took first place in the wholemilk flavoured yogurt category, with Hazelnut and Lemon following closely behind, in second and third place respectively. We also had a clean sweep of the dessert yogurt category, with Blueberry, Greek-style Natural and Greek-style Honey taking the top three spots and a selection of Longley Farm yogurts taking first and second place in the group of four yogurts category. In the low-fat yogurt categories our Fat Free Natural and Fat Free Gooseberry yogurts both took home first place, with judges praising the whole pieces of fruit (and nut) in our yogurts and describing the Gooseberry as a “really good example of a fruit yogurt”.
Our Jersey Extra Rich Cream was awarded the Best Chilled Product, and also came first in the Channel Island Cream class. Judges’ comments included “Sweet, creamy and nostalgia of childhood”. Our Whipping Cream came first in the 40% fat or less cream category, with our Crème Fraiche and Soured Cream taking first and second places in the Cultured Cream class.
Longley Farm Cheese also did well amongst fierce competition. Our Cream Cheese won first prize in the chilled dairy product category, described by judges as “luxurious, indulgent… a very moreish product”. Pineapple Cottage Cheese took top spot in two classes: soft cheese with added flavour and half fat cheese below 17% fat, thanks to its “Beautifully balanced cheese and pineapple flavour”. Natural Cottage Cheese won first place in the soft and fresh cheese category, and Cottage Cheese with Chives took first in the cheese or dairy product with added flavour category. Their fat free counterparts both took second place in the low fat cheese (below 3% fat) class.
Last but by no means least, the Jersey milk from our own Tyers Hall Farm, one of the pedigree Jersey farms that supplies us with the milk for our products, took home first and second prize in the Channel Island Milk category. Described by judges as, “A high quality creamy milk”, there is no doubt that the high quality of the raw milk supplied to us plays a huge part in the award-winning products we make.
