  • "The English Original"

The history of cottage cheese is a bit of a mystery. At some point it crossed the Atlantic to the United States and became hugely popular; whereas over here it faded into obscurity. So popular was it with the Americans that it was even supplied to the US Navy during WWII. And it was in 1944 that Lt. Joseph Dickinson RNVR , whilst serving in the British Pacific Fleet, first came across it.

The second contact came in 1964 during a trip to the USA to look at modern farming techniques. From such chance encounters emerged the idea to try making cottage cheese on a commercial scale back in its country of origin. It took another ten years before the first pots appeared. Using a vat the size of a bath-tub, wooden hay rakes as stirrers and literally hand-packed, it was a labour of love.

After a while, the switch was made from a sweet to a soured-cream dressing and so was created English-Style Cottage Cheese: born and bred at Longley Farm.

Best cottage cheese ever

my mum introduced me to this brand after I was complaining about all cottage cheese being so watery, and oh my gosh I will be forever thankful she did! Its so thick and creamy, its amazing! It will be a very sad day if Longley farm ever stops making cottage cheese, or changes it (please don't šŸ™)

The Cottage cheese (closest to US style)

I became ā€˜addictedā€™ to cottage cheese living in the states. Thought Iā€™d tried them all, then mum gave me this, I even like the fat free! Currently
Plotting how to get 2kg tubs regularly to keep up with my favourite snack/sub breakfast/dinnerā€¦. And new baking ingredient.

Outrageously good

I just wanted to try cottage cheese and picked this up in Iceland, not really expecting to like it. WELL. Where has this been all my life! My kids love it too, we've been shovelling it down on toasted sourdough with plum tomatoes, with a sprinkle of salt, chilli flakes, a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic glaze. Heavenly.

THE BEST

No chance you can ever eat another cottage cheese after trying this one. Excellent source of protein. Incredibly delicious! Wish it was stocked in my local shops, I have to travel quite far to a farm shop that carries it.
I've gotten friends hooked on it as well who previously hated cottage cheese.
