A Visit to the Dairy

In March we had a visit from class 3 from Hepworth J & I, a local school which has close family ties with Longley Farm, as part of their healthy eating project. The children walked the two miles from the school to the dairy and then had a chance to see how milk comes into the dairy, and how it gets turned into all sorts of natural dairy products.

Their tour included seeing where the milk comes into the dairy, tasting the fresh fruit that goes into the yogurts, finding out how yogurt, butter and cottage cheese are made, and seeing where it all ends up in the fridge. They even got a taster of yogurt and ice cream at the end, before heading off on their walk back to school.

Smocks, hairnets and ready to go!                           Learning how ice cream is made with Christine
